Join DGCkids March 24-26 for a multi-sensory art exhibit to celebrate the difference ways people create, experience, and appreciate art. This event encourages exploration by ALL visitors, sighted and visually impaired.

 

Featuring Renowned Artist John Bramblitt

After losing his sight in 2001, John Bramblitt has become the world’s number one blind painter with artwork sold in over thirty countries and featured in hundreds of stories on TV, radio and newspapers including: The New York Times, The Washington Post, BBC, Discovery Channel, and CNN.

John has received three presidential service awards in recognition for his innovative art workshops.  Click here for more info on John.

Friday, March 24

Exhibit Hours: 6:00-9:00 pm

Audio description tours provided by Minds Eye Radio

Opening Reception & Painting Demonstration with John Bramblitt: 6:00-9:00 pm

Explore the exhibit showcasing cutting edge 3D tactile art, multimedia pieces featuring children served by DGCkids, and artwork from local and national artists, including those with visual impairments.

Featured artwork includes life-cast masks by Sharon McConnell-Dickerson & a 3D print of the Mona Lisa, courtesy of 3DPhotoWorks. Opening reception attendees can also enjoy a live painting demonstration by John Bramblitt.

This event is free and open to the public.  Complementary beverages and food for purchase available.

Saturday, March 25

Exhibit Hours:  Noon- 3:00 pm

Meet & Greet with John Bramblitt: 10:00-11:30 am

Exclusive time reserved for children/youth with visual impairments and their families to explore the exhibit – including tactile art from life-cast faces, to the Mona Lisa, to clay tiles created by children served by DGCkids.  The exhibit also includes artwork featuring children served by DGCkids.

Participants will also get to spend dedicated time with John Bramblitt; asking questions, learning how he creates his artwork and getting their own hands-on, multi-sensory experience molding clay to take home!

This event is free but registration is required.

Experiential Painting Class with John Bramblitt: 1:30-3:00 pm

Let John guide you through new painting techniques using multiple senses to explore and create your own piece of art to take home!  A sightless painting exercise will be included for participants to experience.  People of all abilities can participate, minimum age 16.

Tickets $35. Limited spots available.

Youth Painting Class with John Bramblitt: 12:30-1:45 pm at the Saint Louis Art Museum

Exclusive time reserved for children/youth with visual impairments. Learn new painting techniques using multiple senses to explore and create your own pieces of art to take home!

Saint Louis Art Museum’s Family Sundays program with John Bramblitt: 1:00-4:00 pm at the Saint Louis Art Museum

The Family Sundays program provides fun activities for the whole family, including art activities, story time, and a family tour.  The March 26th family program is inspired by modern and contemporary art.

As part of this week’s Family Sundays program, from 2:00-4:00 pm in the Education Center, John Bramblitt will lead hands-on experiential art classes for all ages and abilities.  Participants will get the chance to hear from John, and learn new multi-sensory ways to approach art with hands-on activities involving touch and smell.

This event is free and open to the public.

Annual Events

Run for Sight - 5K Run/2 Mile Walk, May 7

The Run for Sight is held annually at St. Louis Union Station the first Sunday in May. This event benefits the programs and services provided by the Center and features a 5K Competitive Run, 2-mile Fun Run/Walk, Kids Run for children ages 12 and under and an “After Bash” with food, beverages, prizes and awards.

Ride to Unite - A FREE event to celebrate cycling for everyone!

The Delta Gamma Center partners with the Recreation Council of Greater St. Louis for Ride to Unite  in August at Francis Park in the St. Louis Hills neighborhood. Ride to Unite  takes place on the race course of the Gateway Cup, an annual race hosted by Big Shark Bicycle Shop. Along with Delta Gamma Center’s Tandem Adventurers Team, cyclist of all ages and abilities are invited to bring their bikes and ride along for 5 miles on the closed race course.

Tree Lot - Tree lot and holiday boutique

The Shining Light Tree Lot is open during the holiday season from the day after Thanksgiving to mid-December on the property of McCarthy Building Companies. Patrons can purchase trees, wreaths and other holiday items. The lot is a tradition which began in 1951 with the founding of the Delta Gamma Center. All proceeds benefit the Delta Gamma Center

Holiday House – Dinner and silent auction

Holiday House is held in a private home in early December and is by invitation only. Guests are treated to a tour of the home, food, refreshments and auction to help raise funds for the Delta Gamma Center.
